The good Samaritan

He had set off quite early that morning,

Taking leave of his family and home,

All he needed to take, and possessions,

With no idea of the trouble to come.

The traveller’s worst fear ‘thieves and robbers’

Attacked him and stole all he had,

And left him for dead on the wayside,

Bleeding, alone, lost and sad.

But! He hears footsteps, “someone will help me”

So I won’t stay here long, just to die,

But the footsteps slowly get fainter,

And he knows they have just passed him by.

But another has heeded his problems,

Binds all his wounds, lifts him up.

But his helper, and ‘Alien’, a Samaritan,

The Jews have no dealing with such.

No matter the hands that assisted,

The neighbour is one who is there,

It’s easy to pass by men’s troubles.

But the world is just longing for care.

It threw a new light on ‘Samaritans’

It’s a name that we link up with care,

In this day and age, ‘The Samaritans’

Everyone knows they’re still there.
